California Primary Care Association (CPCA) Advocates is a 501(c)(4) social welfare organization dedicated to advancing the mission of community health centers through state and federal advocacy. CPCA Advocates (Advocates) is the advocacy affiliate of the California Primary Care Association and advocates on behalf of nearly 2400 community health centers that provide care to 7.8+ million patients – that’s 1 in 5 Californians.

We are the statewide advocacy arm for community health center and focus on grassroots advocacy, education, public affairs, lobbying, and candidate engagement to uplift the health center voice. CPCA Advocates was formerly known as CaliforniaHealth+ Advocates, which was founded in 2016 as a 501(c)(4) organization to allow for the flexibility and capacity to engage in political activity and fight for community health centers and the communities they serve. The organization was renamed and rebranded in 2023 to allow for better alignment with the community health center mission.

CPCA Advocates is committed to supporting policies that strengthen health centers and the health care delivery system as a whole, ultimately improving patients’ physical, mental, and family wellbeing.

CPCA Advocates believes that every Californian is entitled to comprehensive healthcare coverage and timely access. This includes maintaining a strong Medicaid program and removing barriers for vulnerable populations, addressing the social determinants of health, supporting all patients’ ability to access culturally competent and linguistically appropriate care, and ensuring expanded access to care.
